Pagans don't wear sandals!

 Classical Gas
Back to Full Blog

During the hard years of rock and roll, when it was slowly turning toward psychadelic, and folk music, here comes Mason Williams with a brilliant piece of classical music. This blew me away! I thought I had lost that 'classical' feel for music. He drove me to Beethoven, Bach, and the rest of the boys. I believe this montage is from the Smothers Brothers Show. It is brilliant video.

June,
I was just out of the Army when I first saw Laugh In and the Smother's Brothers. Those two shows were so enlightening. TV had changed and become fairly political. It was a good thing because I was very bitter about poliotics then. I was so discouraged that 1968 was the only election I didn't vote.
Mason Williams' song was so far-out that I went to the library and checked out some classical music, at the urging of my best friend. It settled me down. I swear, I was ready to hit the streets with Molatov cocktails! I got back into the music, it does soothe the savage beast.

Anexplorer,
I was always 'high' then. I saw him play it, and it blew me away.
I saw Jesus, and all the old guys, Gaugin and Renoir, and then it flew into a rock beat, and I soared into the heavens. It was the greatest thing I'd ever heard.
It breached me anger with reason.

1manview,
The birth a Nation started with a revolutionary kiss.
That's how we got where we are, in a great day like this.
We've made mistakes, we aren't always right but we're still the kings of all.
Hopefully, we'll remember who we were before wqe fall.
HAPPY FOURTH OF JULY!!!!!

lonewolfchronicles,
Hey, thanks for stopping by.
Yeah, that show was mind-blowing.
I was ready to join the "Yippies".
I loved the weed and all the freedom,
but I didn't like the Hippies!
When I heard that song that Mason played,
I came back to my senses.
I blew the seeds away that day,
and tore down all the fences.
Now I'm old and work-retired,
and I still love all those 'gases'.
I haven't changed, just rearranged,
The time that quickly passes.
Thanks again and have a great 4th,
Joe

starstalker,
We all were born with what we have,
there's nothing we can't do,
except to carry in our sacks
an explosive devise or two.
But we can shoot the night so bright
with peaceful bombs to celebrate,
the birth of us, and all we trust
a thrust of joyful fate.
But after it's over, don't go bomb the skies
or you know where you will go
to a cell, of hell, a burden of sighs
in a plce called Guantanamo!
Yikes! HAPPY 4TH,
Joe

June
Hope you have a safe 4th of July
We care about our friends.
But put your bombs and rocket away
after the weekned ends.
You don't want to end up in orange clothes
that would be a sin.
Be happy and celebrate our highs and our lows.
And keep a joy within.
HAPPY 4TH
Joe

You have a great day too, Misty.
We had a lot of bombs and a lot of noise.
Grillin' on the cue, and drinking fine beer.
You can't beat life in America!

WP,
That show was ahead of its time.
I never missed it or Laugh-in.
Laugh-in seems silly now, but the
Borthers are still good.
When I got out of the Army in '68,
life here, had changed. The comedy
especially, was so hip.
Thanks, and have a great sunny day
Joe
