EARTHQUAKE?
“What the hell was that?”
Those very words were spoken by millions of people across the heartland, on Thursday morning, at about 4:30 am. We felt a little shake back in the 70's, from a quake that ran through the St Louis fault line. But this, this was a genuine 5.2 rumble that went all the way up to Minnesota! This isn’t suppose to happen around here. The size and quaking was what was different in this one. We had a genuine “California-like” earthquake. What’s going on, God? Are you angry at us? Is it me? I didn’t mean to insult you in any way! Hey, I’ll wear the damn sandals!
Did anyone else feel that? Whoa daddy, that was earth anger!
We felt it down here too! Joey and I happened to be up at 5:30.
It felt like something big had hit the side of the house.
We live on top of a granite ridge. We think that may have amplified the effect.
Earthquakes! Who would have thought?
Hugggggggggggggggggggggz,
Taylor
The shimmy was what surprised us.
We felt a little tick in the 70's.
This one was serious!
Joe
I think you live in what is known as the New Madrid Seismic Zone:
In the winter of 1811-1812, the central Mississippi Valley was struck by three of the most powerful earthquakes in U.S. history.
Even today, this region has more earthquakes than any other part of the United States east of the Rocky Mountains.
Some prognosticators say that the New Madrid fault is more dangerous than the San Andres fault that runs up the western coast of the country.
A 5.2 rumble? Californians wouldn't even bat an eye at that. We like the big ones - 6.5 or over.
I've never felt one. If you don't mind, I'll leave that pleasure to you guys!
Okay, no quakes in the desert.
It's wet and wet here!
Joe
I hardly felt the 70's quake, but
this baby was a real tremor!
Joe
You guys are old pros at this sort of thing.
For us, it's very rare.
I've been here for a long time, and this was
the big one!
Joe
Good information. I never thoguht ot look it up.
I know it's dowen by St Louis so we always called
it that. We have an ammunitions plant here and in
the old days, they'd test fire...man, you could
feel that! Probsably the reason it doesn't get the
attention is because they are usual miniscule in
vibration and rumble. I can see the Mississippi
might make it a worse fault line!
Run for your lives! America has a crack in it!
Joe
I heard from Polar Bear that she felt it in Ohio!
I thought woah! Then I told my fiance and he said you could get them here too! (DC/MARYLAND) I always equated earthquakes with CA...
Stop it, you're scarying me!
Woah nellie!
Please put on your sandals...or whatever else you need to do!! LOL
Keep the Gods appeased!?
Michele aka Rubble (which is I guess what you sometimes get after an earthquake...YIKES!
The earth is angry at what we are doing to her. I heard volcanos that haven't erupted in over 100 years have had recent activity too. Makes ya wonder.
Bear Hugs!
PolarB ;)
I heard that some felt yours down as far Alabama, but I don't know anyone personally.
I thought Chicago got hit by terrorists.
It's pretty scary when the earth rumbles.
A grain elevator blew up ten years ago,
and it shook the whole town. We gotta
quit doing this!

You have been OVERHEARD and SEEN at my place!
It could have been a graphic or a quote,
It could have been something that you wrote!
You added greatly to my Spring Fever Post
So I linked to your blog as a toast,

I live in Southwest, lower Michigan near the Indiana state line and about 30 miles from South Bend, Indiana and about 30 miles south of Kalamazoo, Michigan.
To paraphrase songstress, Carole King, "I felt the earth move .... under my feet". WINK.
About 5:30 a.m. EST, I was online and had my usual morning cup o' coffee on my kitchen table. All of a sudden, the floor began 'vibrating' beneath my chair and my feet. My table started 'shaking' and banging against my kitchen wall. On the PLUS side, it only lasted about 1 minute or so and it 'stirred' my coffee for me. SMILE.
Other songs came to this old geezer's mind: ALL SHOOK UP, by Elvis Aaron Presley, among them. GRIN>
Take care .... ENJOY EVERY SANDWICH ....
My BEST to you and yours, again ....
TallPockets.
Yeah, that was quite a shock (pun).
Whole lotta shakin' goin' on !
joe
The way I'm hearing it, they can happen anywhere!
I didn't know that. I, too, thought if was a California
thing. Those people in Sin City, like Whit, get
them all the time.
Joe
it's the end of the world.
Somebody, do something!
Oh no, not that!
Joe
Bear Hugs!

About the New Madrid fault, though, that Ron mentioned above, that's a worry over in West TN. The quake series of December 1811-March 1812 culminated in a HUGE one (the one in March) that caused the Mississippi River to flow backward and tore out a hole that is now Tennessee's only natural lake, the ironically named Reelfoot--all our others are behind dams.
Haven't checked out your whole blog yet, but definitely gonna do so!
Hoping you are well.
I don't know why I can't recall that New Madrid Fault.
We always called it the St Louis fault because it usually
hit the St Louis-Memphis area.
You've had your share of tronadoes too. Is "Tornado Alley"
changing its course, of something?
Oh well, I have my faults too
Joe
