Pagans don't wear sandals!

 Marital bliss!
Back to Full Blog

Even though I've never published a word of poetry, I'd rather be considered a poet than an author. The word has a freedom to it, doesn't it? "Author" is a stodgy word, you know, intellectual sounding.
I recommend to anyone here, go to the 'writing' section of blogstream. There are some REAL writers here in blogstream!
There are certain words, in poetry, that don't go well with the craft, words like 'full'. The only words, remotely, close are pull, bull, wool, stool. With all those words I think of : "pull the wool over his eyes", or "bull shit!", or "he's a stool pidgeon!". Kind of zeroes your options.
Then there's the word freedom! You can use "lead 'em", as in "lead a Horse to water", or "breed 'em", as in "fuck 'em!", "heed 'em", as in "heed them SOBs of we're dead!". I suppose you could use "read 'em", or "speed 'em", or "weed 'em", but those are kind of 'druggy'.
How about ever? Never, sever, forever, the endeavor, of weather, with your leather!
And finally, to the poet, the trouble with the word life, is that it only rhymes with strife, knife, or wife! To whichever, a man is doomed!
Have any favorite rhymes?
Joe

Can I find another rhyme for life
What's wrong with using Duncan Phyfe?

In picking an instrument
To play for life
Some choose a flute
And others, a fife

At this time in life,
When violets bloom,
And men are warmed
To strife and fire,

And like a knife
The bonds are cut,
To free each man's
Most cherished desire.

A wife is alone
And missing you,
Her heart's agony
reveals your pain.

And lifts you up.

Or something like that. I'm not going to pretend that's a poem, but it illustrates what a real poet would do with the rhyming scheme, totally ignore it.

Joe -
Whoever
Went wherever
Forever
Not knowing whenever
He went wherever
For ever!!!

Now that is nonsensical but that is the way I am thinking at the moment - and you know that I am always writing nearly every day over an alien on earth - maybe it is a brain freeze at the moment - June

I'm not good with poetry either, but instead of author how about something high falutin like wordsmith?

Joe,

How about the word PURPLE?

and don't say MAPLE SYRPLE ... SYRPLE is not a word even though I tried to use in in Scarbble once during an act of desperation!

Huggggggggggggggz,

Yeah Whit,
And there's also a fruity little flute
called a Fyfe, or Fife.
Not that poetry HAS to rhyme, but
I've noticed those words that are difficult
to blend a line. They're usually one-syllable,
and tough.

Anexplorer,
That was good top-of-the-head poetry.
Putting them in the body is better than trying
to end the line with them. That makes it better.
Good job,
Joe

Sherry,
Wordsmith Hmmm,
Acually, I like "writer", but I don't
think I qualify yet. In order to be
called a writer, you need to sell books!

TTaylor,
I wonder why I called this "marital bliss".
Strife? Knife? Wife? That's not bliss, that's
deadly!

Joe,

You reminded me of a poem that I wrote when I was in the fourth grade ... I wanted to give Mom and Dad a homemade anniversary card.

I didn't know what all the words meant but I knew they rhymed. I wrote:

To my father and the love of his life,
His sweet wife and source of all his strife ...

or something like that.

Mom and I laugh about it still today ...

Kids!

Hugggggggggggggggz,
Taylor

P.S. They have been married over 50 years!

Taylor,
When we were kids, we did the same stuff kids
are doing now, well almost! They're a lot smarter now.
I remember the dumb stuff I did. I always bought my Mom
P U fume for Christmas. She was a single mother, with
five kids. I remember her laughing, and saying to a friend,
"What am I going to do with all this perfume?".
Then there was the Paper weight I made in school. It looked
so horrible, I buried it in the snow. Some ass hole dug it
up and returned it to school. Talk about embarrassed, when
I had to go up, and retrieve it. Mrs Horsely said:
"Your Mother will love it!". I didn't understand that. Now, I
have tons of little drawings on my computer room walls, from
my Grandchildren. The most recent is a little note from my
little Ashleigh, after the surgery saying:
"You made it Grandpa, I love you, Ashleigh". Ain't nothin'
better than that.

Then again, maybe I should let a real poet make this point, Gilbert O'Sullivan singing "Nothing Rhymes"--

Anexplorer,
If it doesn't rhyme, come as
close as you can. Thy'll never
notice if it's dramatic.

Polar B,
It's hard to find the time, but I've gone to some, and the poll is full. As long as nobody shits a turd in the water, we are blessed! God, I crack me up!

Joe,

I have been so consumed with work and stuff
I have not arranged a visit
To read what is happening here with you and your friends

I do, to my heart's joy, find that many are having fun
creating light-hearted pieces to help heal you
in your recovery.

I don't do poetry - although i try at my Love Letters blog
