Pagans don't wear sandals!

 Legacy
Back to Full Blog

"No man is an island". Neither, is any man a nation!

President Bush has cast himself as this Nation, and thinks whatever he has done, is exactly right. Not really! The people don’t think so. He lied to the people, and ‘the people’ don’t like it when their president lies to them! He lied in order to do what he has done. That is not a policy; that is an agenda! While he ignores the unbelievable repressions of his friends in Saudi Arabia, 19 of whom did attack us on 9-11, he launches a “shock and awe’ attack on people who liked us, who were like us! That is not policy; that is war crimes!
Today, this today! becomes so important because of that!
In your legacy, no matter what it is you do, you cannot undo what you have already done.

The legend of what he has done will mark our stars for generations. Unfortunately, those generations had no choice in the matter, and must suffer its stain. The next generation is the one the Mothers of now, created. We owe them an excuse to be proud.
Today, this today! becomes important because of them!

And so the young ones come. They have the ideas of the future. They haven’t been so blinded by the ‘fog of war’. They are the positive spirit of the idea that they really can change the world. What’s wrong with that? Why try to make them soldiers, because we don’t have enough of them? They want to feed those hungry children. How about we enlist them into an Army of life? They want to heal the sick. Let them go to college free, and send them out to heal their own kind. They want to love others as they do themselves. That sounds righteous! What’s wrong with that?

Today, this day! becomes so important to us, because of what the young ones want.

I am old, and have seen the despicable act that kills my brother and sisters 'in the field'. They say that we have to support them, or they die in vain. Not exactly! I say we can't support HIM, or they die in vain! 'The field,', the shit', 'the sand', whatever you call the battlefield these days, is what his legend has cast us upon. I doubt I will live to see the end of this, but I will carry my generation’s certain stain, well into my next life.

Today, this day! becomes important so we can alter the next generation’s guilt of what we have done. I weep for my Nation.
Let me enter my last thought smiling.

In the end, the only thing we have left is our legacy - and I am beginning to be more worried about my legacy than W's - he only has about 9 months to turn his around - and I don't think that is enough time...

Joe - it is with saddness I admit how much I myself have erred and failed the generations to come. I can only now act on the knowledge I have gained and do my best to improve the legacy I leave to the best of my ability whle I still have breath. And may God give me the wisdom and strength to truly care for this world as He has planned for me to do in my life still remaining - thanks for this word. And take care - friend; my prayers are with you - june

JOE: HELLO. Albert Einstein had the famous quote that I find myself going back to often these days:

"Nationalism is the MEASLES of the World". That old Al' was a BRIGHT guy, I've been told. WINK.

I too, WEEP for OUR country, Joe. NOT because I am NOT proud of it, because I AM for the MOST part!

But, because of what "I" think it SHOULD be and COULD be.

I've also DISMISSED that old argument, "They'll die in VAIN" as ABSURD, also.

To ME, IF one wears the UNIFORM for OUR behalf and protections, whether they died in a DECLARED WAR, the KOREAN war(undeclared) or in a TRAINING accident at HOME, NO ONE SOLDIER EVER DIES IN VAIN!!!

STOOOOPID thinking/reasoning on THIS old man's views!

Do FIREFIGHTERS who DIE attempting to SAVE a BURNING HOUSE or PEOPLE inside it DIE IN VAIN if they do NOT save the house? Or ALL inside?

Of course not! .... They're HEROES. Pure and simple.

I WISH some POLITICIAN would USE MY thoughts to SET THINGS STRAIGHT the next time ANY politician from ANY stripe or color says that DUMB VAIN statement!

GRRR ....

My BEST to you and yours, JOE.

TEARS are NOT a BAD thing, my friend. They CLEANSE the SOUL.

Hello Joe..I am deeply sorry to hear about your upcoming operation.
You have been through so much. But you are such a survivor. Don't
forget that. I received a package sent special delivery this morning.
When I saw who it was from I was so excited. I knew what the box would
contain, and it did. Your first book, Zapata's Horse: The Book of While,
in which you had so thoughtfully written a comment to me, and the matching tee shirt from that book...and a copy of your other book, Ogallala, The Rise of Morning Sun,in which you had also written a comment to me along with the tee shirt that matched this book. Thank you so much, Joe. I cannot wait to read them both, but I will start
with Zapata's Horse

I believe I had told you in the past, how much prayer means to me
and that I believe it really works. You have been in my prayers since
we first commented to each other, when I sent you my book, with my
comments to you..Keep your faith, Joe..I really meant it when I said
in my opinion you are a survivor..Take care, will be checking out your
posts as usual...and thank you so much, again.

you can't blindly follow a leader who is flawed.
Our young gladiators are merely fodder for the

I went to the Wall in Washington..it was in 1996..I was ok and then I walked up to the statues of the soldiers. I lost it. I tried to twist my body as if I could wrench myself from grief.
A statue of soldiers, like me...It had been made for political chest pounding from political/corporate cowards..but that didn't matter.
For a moment it was the catalyst for moving into action from inaction. I lived while so many others died for thirst of a world gone mad. And then I knew I would never go back to being fooled again.

capanandra,
I saw the "moving wall" in Mt Pleasant years ago.
It is a portable, smaller scale version. But it still
had Ro Jackson's name on it. I copied his name on paper
and have it here now. It was difficult to copy the name
off the wall through flooding tears.
I parked and walked up to it. No problem. When I got close,
a caving came. I will never forget touching my good friend's
name.
We owe them the reason to be proud,

All the best to you guys for the election. Its so difficult to change a government because the new government will have to continue for a while to reap from the last. It's very disappointing to watch. We've just changed government recently (a couple of months) and they're already receiving flack from the continuation of the previous governments decisions. It's so strange. Their own changes have created some flack from the public but i don't feel empathy for them in the public's reaction to those. It's just the 'change' thing i guess.

I don't see anyone pleasing every one ever. Its strange isn't it? I don't know any politicans personally but for some reason they just don't incite trust in me. They resemble a bunch of crooked sales people who are just after their own agendas, none of which are to advance the lives of our kids or grand kids. Having said that - I believe that there truely is very little excuse/reason for not voting.

All the best with your opperation. Hope all goes well with you...

Rosie,
Yes, I always vote, even if I don't like the choices.
But those who don't vote also have that right, and we
must have candidates who inspire people to vote.
This year the Democrats have inspiration and experience
to vote for. Everybody knows a vote for hillary will mean
Bill will be back in the White house. Except for NAFTA,
that is a good thing.
Obama rises as a star, inspiring young people to come out
and vote. That is never bad, and I think it's time to
give the young, and the women a chance. They sure can't
do any worse than we old white men have done!

"In your legacy, no matter what it is you do, you cannot undo what you have already done."

What a powerful line Joe. I have often thought if I leave this life today, what kind of legacy will I leave behind. I hope it is one of compassion and light and kindness. I am not perfect nor is no man, but I do think it is important to think about our words and actions and the impact we leave upon others.

Many blessing to you Joe and sending healing prayers and thoughts for your upcoming surgery.

Polar B,
I think your legacy is in good hands.
We never know what's going to happen.
Water cars are certain, micro-chips
embedded in new born children is a
freaky, 1984, proposal, we seem to be
gravitating towards small, profitable,
wars. If someone doesn't stop the corporate
sludge, we're doomed to low-wage, poverty!
Doesn't sound good!
Something positive, let's see, damn! Oh,

scene as it is happening. I love that!

Isn't that ironic, me telling her why we celebrate!

Cracker,
I am certainly changed today.
Oh no, I'm still a smart ass!
But the love and caring of a lot
of people kept me here.
I am in your debt today,
Joe

capanandra,
Glad you liked it, hope you read it,
hope you wear it, hope you understand it!
My wife will not even read my stuff. She
says it's confusing, so apparently, she has
tried. My sister said the same thing. She
said I lost her in places. I will have to
work on that. Trouble is, I don't quite
know how! Confusion seems to be my forte.
Gee, I'm dommed to a wash-out.
Oh well, it's fun and therapudic.
Thanks,
Joe
